Our Story
Midway Sanctuary began with one simple belief: every animal deserves love, dignity, and a safe place to call home, especially those who are often overlooked.
More than three years ago, while planning a trip to Costa Rica, we connected with a local rescue and decided we wanted to help bring a few animals home. Our only request was that they be senior or special needs animals, the ones who are so often left behind.
When the rescue sent us the dogs’ stories, we quickly realized we couldn’t choose just a few. Each one deserved a chance. What started as a plan to bring home a couple of dogs became a life-changing decision to rescue all eight. Two of the smaller dogs flew home with us in the cabin, while six others made the journey separately. Those eight incredible dogs became the heart and inspiration behind Midway Sanctuary.
Since then, our mission has continued to grow. We provide lifelong care, medical support, rehabilitation, comfort, and, most importantly, a loving home for senior and special needs animals who have nowhere else to go. Every animal that arrives at Midway Sanctuary has a unique story, and we are honored to become part of their next chapter.
Running a sanctuary is only possible because of the kindness of others. The daily care, veterinary treatment, specialized diets, medications, and safe housing our animals need are made possible through the generosity of our community. Every donation, sponsorship, volunteer, and supporter helps us continue saying “yes” to animals who desperately need a second chance.
At Midway Sanctuary, we don’t measure success by the number of animals we save. We measure it by the quality of life we can give each one. Whether they have years ahead of them or only a short time, they will spend it surrounded by compassion, comfort, and unconditional love.
