Special Needs

Bronze needs patient, trust-based handling and professional training as he learns to feel safe around people.

Not every rescue story begins with wagging tails and instant trust. Sometimes, it begins with simply giving a dog another chance.

Bronze is just 2 1/2 years old, making him one of the youngest residents at Midway Sanctuary. Unlike many of our senior and hospice dogs, Bronze’s greatest challenge isn’t age. It’s learning that people can be kind.

Before coming to Midway, Bronze had been in and out of the county shelter multiple times after escaping from several different homes. Each move only added to his uncertainty, and eventually, he found himself on the euthanasia list. We thought we had missed our chance to save him, but after making one last attempt, the staff received our message in time. Because of that, Bronze was given the second chance he so desperately needed.

Bronze is a work in progress, and that’s okay. He is understandably nervous around people but finds comfort and confidence in the company of other animals. Every day, we work at his pace, helping him learn that the world doesn’t have to be a scary place.

He enjoys spending time relaxing on his dog cot in his secure outdoor run, where he can watch the world from a place where he feels safe. He also loves chewing on large bones and playing with toys, giving us glimpses of the happy, carefree dog that’s beginning to emerge.

Bronze will need time, patience, and professional training to build trust with people. We don’t know what his future holds, but we know he deserves the opportunity to heal, and we’ll be by his side every step of the way.

While Bronze isn’t available for adoption at this time, you can become his monthly sponsor. Your sponsorship helps provide professional training, veterinary care, nutritious food, enrichment toys, chew bones, and the daily support he needs as he learns to trust again. Your generosity gives Bronze the time, patience, and hope every dog deserves.
