Some dogs simply have a way of capturing every heart they meet, and that’s exactly who Tootsie is.

At 17 years young, this adorable Chug (Chihuahua-Pug mix) is a favorite everywhere she goes. Her journey to Midway Sanctuary came full circle after she was found wandering the streets as a stray and brought to the very same county shelter where she had been surrendered 14 years earlier. While we can’t change her past, we can make sure her future is filled with love.

Tootsie has become part of the heart and soul of Midway Sanctuary. Everyone who visits wants to scoop her up for cuddles, and while she’s happy to accept all the affection, she’s also a true free spirit. Given the chance, she’ll happily wander the property, exploring every corner with curiosity and confidence.

One of our favorite things about Tootsie is seeing her unexpected bursts of energy. Every now and then she’ll take off running through the house, reminding us that age is just a number. Watching her little legs go makes us wonder what she must have been like as a young pup, we imagine she was full of endless spunk and mischief.

When the adventures are over, Tootsie is happiest curled up right beside her favorite person. She’ll snuggle close all night long and happily sleep in with you the next morning, content just to be near someone who loves her.

It truly feels like Tootsie has always been part of the Midway family. She has filled our home with laughter, comfort, and unconditional love, and we are incredibly grateful that she gets to spend her golden years exactly where she belongs.
